EU Eco Flower

The EU Eco Flower is the premier European award for the manufacture of ecological products. It is the symbol for products that satisfy stringent controls with respect to their effects on the environment and people.

The current criteria governing the award of the EU Eco Flower for all purpose cleaners and sanitary cleaners was published in 2005 and is set to be replaced with more stringent criteria in several months, due to advances in technology and market development. We have been waiting for the EU to agree on the new criteria since 2009 and have kept a close eye on the draft criteria that has been published on the EU Eco Flower website in the meantime.

As the Green Planet Solutions range was re-formulated in the latter half of 2010, we developed our products in line with the draft criteria, to ensure our products would be awarded the EU Eco Flower when the new criteria was finalised.

In line with the draft criteria, all of our products have been formulated without dyes or perfumes (which are recognised as being potentially damaging to health and the environment). We have also taken advantage of advances in raw material technology and used newly available surfactants and associated additives.

We are also completing full dossiers along with product packaging and label samples ready to submit to the competent body for assessment. We are just waiting for the final criteria to be published before we apply and are confident that our products will be awarded the EU Eco Flower – so watch this space!

If you are interested in EU Eco Flower criteria, see below some of the significant proposed changes:

  • Ready to use products will now be included. These were previously omitted and some ready to use products were awarded the EU Eco Flower in error, simply because the concentrated version had the flower.
  • There will be a reduction in the allowed values of Critical Dilution Volumes Toxicity (CDVtox)
  • No micro-organisms will be allowed – this rules out the use of enzymes
  • Nano materials will not be allowed
  • Fragrances will no longer be allowed in products for professional use
  • Allowed content of volatile organic compounds will be reduced from 10% to 6%
